Ground Fault Test per NEC Article 230-95

Article 230-95 for switchboards rated 1000 amperes or more.

Article 230-95 (c), Performance Testing.  The ground fault protection system shall be performance tested when first installed on the site.  The test shall be conducted in accordance with instructions which shall be provided with the equipment.  A written record of this test shall be made and shall be available to the authority having jurisdiction.

Article 250-61 (b), Load-Side Equipment.  The neutral shall not be used for grounding purposes nor should load side neutrals be grounded in any way.  This could produce an erroneous signal in the ground fault sensing system, resulting in false tripping.

 

 

In addition the National Electric Code (NEC 250-81) requires an electrical test of the main grounding electrode and inspection of all accessible components of the grounding system for physical damage and installation in compliance with the local, state, national codes and regulations, and manufacturer's instruction.

 

This field test will include a fall-of-potential test or alternative in accordance with the latest additon of IEEE Standard 8 on the main grounding electrode or system.   Industrial Tests, Inc. will also perform point to point tests to determine the resistance between main grounding systems and all major electrical equipment frame, system neutral, and/or derived neutral points.
